It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gerhard Baumer, who died peacefully at home on June 1st, 2026.

Gerhard was a longstanding and deeply cherished member of the ICASSI community, having served as Co-Chair, Board Member, and Faculty Member over the years. His contributions to ICASSI were wide-ranging and lasting, but it was his presence — warm, thoughtful, and genuinely curious about the people around him — that so many of us will carry with us.

Beyond his work with ICASSI, Gerhard dedicated his professional life to psychotherapy, accompanying countless individuals through their most vulnerable moments with care, insight, and profound humanity. He was known for his quiet patience — able to sit in silence, unhurried, giving the other person all the time they needed to find their words.

After many years of life and work in Berlin, and despite facing significant health challenges in recent years, Gerhard found peace in Flensburg, where he spent his final years in the devoted company of Gudrun.

He will be deeply missed — as a colleague, a mentor, and a friend.

Our thoughts are with Gudrun, his family, and all who loved him.
