Outreach Activities – European Countries

Below are the outreach activities of ICASSI faculty across Europe.

FRANK WALTON helped introduce Adlerian Psychology into Eastern European countries , Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary shortly after the fall of communism. In addition, he’ll offer programs in 2017 in several countries, including Bucharest (Romania). On November 18, 2017 he will present “Family and Individual Counseling Demonstrations” at the Adlerian Institute of Bucharest.

ANDREA HILLENBRAND traveled to Bulgaria in 2016. The effort by Prof. Zhaneta Stoykova, President of the Bulgarian Society of Individual Psychology, in preparation and giving it a perfect frame has contributed hugely to making it successful. Andrea met with the Dean of the faculty of Education at Trakia Univesity, Stara Zagora with the help of Prof. Elena Lavrentsova (Vice-Dean; International Relations, former ICASSI participant). She also met with the Head of the Department of Information and In-Service Teacher Training. Prof. Gala Koschuharova (former ICASSI participant) helped arrange the meeting. Andrea gave a lecture at the Faculty of Education over a full weekend with four sessions. There were probably 80-100 students of pedagogy, teachers from an in-teacher-training and faculty in the audience. The content covered:

  1. giving the basics of Individual Psychology, in theory and demonstrations,
  2. with an emphasis on the Adlerian views on development,
  3. some ideas how that helps understand children in home and school and how to react to their behavior,
  4. plus some sections of deeper understanding of addiction from an Adlerian point of view.

Andrea then gave a Lecture at Southwest University in Blagoevgrad. The additional lecture at the faculty of psychology went quite well. The frame was a session in a regular class, open to interested others. There were probably 30 students and ten faculty members in the audience. Several local newspapers and websites brought articles about it. She also met with the Bulgarian Society of Individual Psychology at the headquarters of the Union of Scientists – Stara Zagora. The officers for that organization are: President: Prof. Zhaneta Stoykova, Vice-President: Nikolai Zhilkov.

At the invitation of Ramona Andrei and Andi Beldianu in Romania, in March and December 2014, Karen John from the UK facilitated 3 intensive and 2 introductory experiential workshops featuring Adlerian-based leadership, group dynamics and leadership mentoring workshops, each involving roughly equal numbers of participants from the psychotherapy/counseling sector and managers from the banking and other business sectors. Similar workshops are now being facilitated by Ramona and/or Andi.
