Workshops Timezone A (Asia/ Europe) – Saturday 20th: UK 10 am – 1pm, Berlin 11am-2pm, Israel 12 – 3pm, Beijing 6pm-9pm, Tokyo 7pm – 10pm
We shall look at the way two people make the choice of creating a partnership, how they make a couple contract – unknown to them – and how sometimes that contract has elements that do not fit a harmonious, equal relationship. Pinpointing the disturbing elements and the situation that brought about a conflict enaables us to help the couple make a better contract. A volunteering couple will help me demonstrate these concepts.
Parenting is one of the most common and demanding commitments in life. Sometimes it can also be baffling and overwhelming . Questions like, why do children behave the way they do? What is their payoff? Why are they defiant ? Does early childhood matter? How can I handle temper tantrums? Why do siblings have different personalities? etc these are some of questions, and more, we shall be dealing with Parenting the Adlerian Way offers the tools parents need to make it easier. Join us for this workshop and bring your friends with you.
Supporting and encouraging parents who feel frightened or overwhelmed by their infant or toddler can be challenging. Brief intervention and support is possible with video interaction to highlight parental strength and to bring the infant’s experience to the fore in the parents’ mind. This can be achieved whilst simultaneously holding the parent’s anxiety or previous trauma that discourages the roots of social connection in infancy. The vital dance of relating can be supported so that a narrative of connection can be collaboratively created that focuses on the infant’s needs with brief video work. This workshop will provide a framework and resources to facilitate such connection.
Since she learned to read, Kim has always loved stories of all kinds. Since she learned about Adlerian psychology, she has loved the intersection between the two and how using stories in all forms can encourage a person. This workshop will give participants an opportunity to work with one of their own favorite fairytales, stories, movies or video games and find strengths and courage along with understanding of private logic and lifestyle patterns. Through whole group discussions and small group activities, there will be opportunities for participants to discover ways to increase their belief that they have the courage required to handle what life throws at them. This will include some creative exercises, (no artistic talent required) so some paper and pens might come in handy. Aims of the workshop: To explore how our favorite stories can offer encouragement and insight into our strengths, Private Logic and Lifestyle preferences and provide opportunities for creative problem solving of life’s challenges.

Aligned Leadership – Building Relationships, Overcoming Resistance, and Achieving Success. An Adlerian Approach
Anyone can be a leader, at work, at home, and in the community. Leadership is not about an official title; it is a way of interacting with others to build and sustain mutually respectful relationships, overcome any resistance that may be experienced, and achieve success, however that is defined. Yet, everyone from time-to-time experiences resistance in relationships with others. If not understood and effectively addressed, the resistance can grow larger and substantially impact relationships overall as misalignment intensifies.
Jay’s presentation is based on his recently published book, Aligned Leadership. A main goal is to enhance awareness of this topic. A three-hour workshop from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm central time (Chicago time) will focus on skill building to address resistance and be more in alignment.
Workshops Timezone B (US/ Europe) – Saturday 20th: Seattle 9-12am, Chicago 11am – 2pm, New York 12-3pm, Berlin 6pm-9pm

Part 1 The theory of Alfred Adler as it applies to the psychological needs of everyone: 1. To have an inner sense of belonging, to feel connected to others, to experience a sense of being accepted. 2. To have the continual sense of growing, improving, and learning. 3. To find a sense of significance, to be valued by being needed by others. 4. To experience encouragement, building the courage needed to go forward even in difficult situations. He outlines the needs and we apply his theory to finding solutions for providing those needs in all relationships. Part 2 Rethinking differently about War in Ukraine: how Alfred Adler’s theory is useful Dr. Natalia Grinko, MD, Adlerian therapist will describe how all of the Crucial Cs and essential psychological needs are met for Ukrainians. There is no health without mental health. And if you will restore the people, people will restore the country. And Alfred Adler teaches us how to keep courage and achieve psychological tolerance when life is extremely difficult and threatening. How do we use his valuable insights when lives are disrupted by War?
This workshop is based on a recently published book, Aligned Leadership: Building Relationships, Overcoming Resistance, and Achieving Success. This workshop is an extension of the earlier plenary session on Aligned Leadership. A brief review of that information will be highlighted for anyone missing the morning presentation. A major focus on this workshop is on resistance and ways to address it. One simple but far-reaching definition of resistance is a misalignment of goals. A goal in this context is not a narrow definition of a task but the holistic way in which an individual interacts in the world. This includes the foundational cognitive belief system in what Adler called the Lifestyle. It also includes a person’s wants or needs in each moment. Where there is alignment, things proceed in a comfortable way and there is a sense of collaboration and cooperation. Misalignment presents challenges for all. Small groups will be extensively utilized to practice the skills focusing on current challenges group members are experiencing with resistance. Groups will also be asked to create resistance scenarios to stump the presenter. Outcomes of this group work will be reviewed, and lessons learned explored.
In this workshop we will configure what are stressful situations we encounter and will look at them from an Adlerian point of view. Then we will look at helping ourselves and others in overcoming stressful situations, using Adlerian principles.

Workshops Timezone A (Asia/Europe) – Sunday 21st: UK 10 am – 1pm, Berlin 11am-2pm, Israel 12 – 3pm, Beijing 6pm-9pm, Tokyo 7pm – 10pm
This workshop offers psychotherapists and counselors the opportunity to present ‘difficult’ cases from their practice. We will work together in the group to understand the inner psychological dynamics of the clients. Especially the unconscious relationship dynamic between clients and practitioners should be made transparent, thereby opening up new paths in the treatment process and overcoming problems that have arisen.
Is social interest innate or developed? What could prevent us from developing social interest and joining a common world? Adler once said “Empathy is seeing with the eyes of another, listening with the ears of another, and feeling with the heart of another.” This workshop aims to explore how senses, perception, movement and neurodiversity can help us appreciate the uniqueness of ourselves and others and can be a strong foundation for empathy and cooperation.
Corona, the war in Ukraine, the war in Israel, the fear of a third world war is affecting us all, many suffer from Existential Threats. Therapists all over the world are facing and sharing a common issue in their clinics. Patients who present anxieties and difficulties in their daily functioning. There is a tendency to refer to it as Trauma or Post Trauma. In the presented workshop we will differentiate between the terms Trauma and Existential Threat (E.T). The need to become aware of our inner strength and creative resources is essential to deal with these E.T.. Adler’s optimistic theory: „Change is always Possible“ and Adler’s effective intervention using ERs, is a quick powerful way that can be used when working with people who suffer from E.T. The workshop will focus on the use of Early Recollections to find inner resources and how can they be used to change ineffective strategies to productive strategies (Shifron 2020) that can help to cope with our Existential Threats.

D3: Courage is crucial in difficult times. Through courage we can use whatever strength we have for coping with difficulties. Life can give us difficulties even in ‘good’ times. Our ‘private logic’ interprets what is happening to us. So we make decisions, of ‘can I cope, yes or no.’ If I think of the ‘welfare of ‘the group’ I’ll be better able to cope’ because I am not alone. I belong and the group needs me. For Adlerians this means Strength. It means ‘ I can cope, based on Social Interest’. When I have Social Interest I am strong and I can cope. I can face my difficulties. This is compared to when I feel sorry for myself instead of having Social Interest. Are there times we should give in to our weaknesses? It depends on the ‘needs of the situation’. This refers to Realism. We need to have high Realism as well as high Social Interest. This means we have ‘Courage to do the right thing.’ For us to have Realism, we need also to have reliance on the judgment of others — in other words, science or consensus, so we do not only rely on our Private Logic. This takes practice. We also need to learn from our Mistakes. Practicing to learn from our mistakes is also learning Realism. So: 1) we learn from our mistakes; 2)we learn from science; 3) we practice Social Interest; 4) we rely on Courage, so that we are Realistically Courageous; 5) we can Cope !! “
Using the Connexions Focusing Technique to interpret Early Recollections, we will: Uncover the paths a person decided were open to them in order to achieve the Crucial Cs Determine the strategies they developed in response to their conclusions Discover how those same strategies are creating problems for them now. Participants in this workshop will have the opportunity to review the Crucial Cs and the Adlerian theory pertinent to understanding Early Recollections. A case study will be presented that takes participants through the process, learning the Connexions Focusing Technique. Participants will leave this workshop with practical tools for interpreting Early Recollections.
Using Adler Dreikurs principles of understanding adolescents we will explore private logic, behaviours and search for meaning. We will anayse typical modern challenges for adolescents like: being independent, identity, social media, bullying etc, The theory and the techniques will be taught by means of live demonstrations.
