Day trip to Monschau and Rursee

This day tour takes us to two striking destinations in the Eifel:

Program: 10 a.m. – The bus picks us up at Steinfeld Monastery and takes us to the town of Monschau, 35 km away. Once there, we first visit a Roman glassworks and experience the ancient craft of glassblowing together.

A short path takes us to the historic old town with its great clothmaking past. Here you have the opportunity to stroll through the narrow streets with their beautiful half-timbered houses. In many of them you can find QR codes that show interesting details about the respective buildings.

The Rur, which flows through the old town, is known for its whitewater tours. There is a historic mustard mill just outside the city center and the youth hostel is in the castle above the center. Many small restaurants invite you to enjoy a hearty snack or “Monschauer Tütchen”, a pastry specialty.

At around 2 p.m. the bus continues to Rursee. It takes about 30 minutes for 18 km because the famous Eifel serpentines require it.

At 3 p.m. our boat sets off from Rurberg for the relaxing end of our Eifel tour. The bus picks us up in Schwammenauel after an hour and brings us back so that we are back in Steinfeld Monastery around 5 p.m.

Period: Sunday, July 28, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m
